Primary Tag Rugby Tournament -04/03/2013
Holyrood Academy's feeder Primary Schools participated in a Tag Rugby Tournament on Monday 4th March. The competition was hosted by Chard Rugby Club with the event taking place on the main pitch, and being officiated by club coaches.
A best ever entry of 22 teams contested the event; 12 teams in the Year 3-4 competition and 10 teams played out the Year 5-6 competition, this meant that over 125 boys and 55 girls were involved in total – making for a fantastic spectacle.
The eventual winners in the Year5-6 event were Neroche and Chard B, both of these teams will now go forward to represent the Holyrood cluster at the South Somerset finals, to be held at Castle Cary Rugby Club on Thursday 21st March.
The winner of the Year3-4 event was Tatworth, with Chard A and Buckland St Mary in second and third places.
Schools in attendance were Ashill, Avishayes, Buckland, Chard, Combe, Manor Court, Neroche, Redstart, Tatworth and Winsham.
School sports co-ordinator, Jason Hedaux, would like to thank Chard Rugby Club for there enthusiasm and hospitality and welcomes the community links made between schools and community clubs. These links greatly help schools to deliver the competitive nature of sport for our children.

Gymnastics Competition - 14/01/2013
Holyrood Academy played host to a Gymnastics Competition for its feeder schools on Monday 14th January.
Pupils from local primary schools had been given an outline of a gymnastics routine prior to the competition and they had practised these in their own schools before the event.
Pupils from years 3 and 4 performed their routines and were graded by Buckland St Mary with 30 points.
Schools Sports co-ordinator, Jason Hedaux, was particularly pleased with the standard of the routines, -encouraging a sporting legacy post Olympics!
National Centre Parcs Badminton Tournament 04/12/12
Holyrood Academy played host to the first round of the National Centre Parcs badminton tournament on Tuesday 4th December. There were a total of 13 teams, 9 boys and 4 girls competing.
9 Junior Boys teams participated from Holyrood, Sexeys, King Arthurs, Stancester, Preston, Huish Wadham and Maiden Beech with Huish being victorious.
The Holyrood team just missed out on the final after beating Stancester 5-0, Wadham 3-2, King Arthurs B 3-2 and losing to Sexeys 3-2, a very creditable performance from a young team.
Team members were: Nathan Johnson, Matt Bawler, Ben Govier and Rafa Marques.

Quicksticks Hockey Tournament 03/12/12
Holyrood Academy played host to a Quicksticks Hockey Tournament for its feeder primary schools on Monday 3rd December, the fourth competitive sporting event held this term.
10 teams consisting of 66 year 5 and 6 boys and girls played on the astro at the school.
A fantastic atmosphere was created by the large number of supporting staff, parents and friends - making the event a huge success.
Each team played 2 pool games which led to 2 further 'finals' games, with the eventuals winners of the competition being Chard School and this team will now go forward to represent the Holyrood cluster in the South Somerset District Finals to be played next year.
The event was supported and officiated by young leaders from the Holyrood and representatives from Chard Hockey Club.
Participating schools were Ashill, Avishayes, Buckland, Combe, Chard, Redstart, Tatworth and Winsham.
School games co-ordinator, Jason Hedaux, was particularly pleased with the massive take-up for this event - encouraging competition amongst children is a high prority for the Government and a focus for our work post London 2012.

Year 7 District Hockey Final -27th November
Holyrood Academy Year 7 Hockey team played in the Yeovil & District finals on Tuesday 27th November.
Their semi final game was against Sexeys school. An excellent team performance from the Holyrood side saw them win the game 3-2.
In the final they played the Gryphon School, a team they had previously played in the pool matches. Gryphon were strong and despite valiant Holyrood attempts on goal and tireless work in defence the game ended 7-0 to Gryphon.

Year 8 District Rugby Champions
Holyrood 34

Holyrood Academy's year 8 rugby team have had a successful term, culminating in them being crowned South Somerset Champions.
Holyrood beat Chilton Cantello 47-0, Ansford 50-5 and Huish Episcopi 29-5 to reach the final.
Points scorers in the final were Angus Crouch (3), Jacob Mee (2) and Aaron Marlow (1), captain Ieuan Watkins kicked 2 conversions.
Holyrood now progress to the County Cup Semi-Finals where they meet the winners of the Mendip area.
Monday 15th October 2012
Holyrood Academy's feeder Primary Schools participated in a joint venture with Chard Wheelers Cycling Club on Monday 15th Octobr. This opportunity gave local primary school children the chance to be coached in cycling and then to race against pupils from other schools, both on an inidividual and team basis.
The session was supported and led by members of the British Cycling and Chard Wheelers Cycling Club, aiming to promote the popular Olympic sport of cycling. 16 pupils, 10 girls and 6 boys participated in the event.
School sports co-ordinator, Jason Headaux, would like to thank Brandon Ellie and Chard Wheelers for their enthusiam and welcomes the community links made between schools and community clubs. These links greatly help schools to deliver the competitive nature of sport, creating a legacy from London 2012
Monday 24th September
Holyrood Academy played host to a Football Tournament for its feeder primary schools on Monday 24th September.
Brilliant weather welcomed 20 teams consisting of 90 boys and 70 girls to the Astro at the School.
A fantastic atmosphere was created by the large number of supporting staff, parents friends - making the event a huge success.
Winners of the competitions were; Small schools = Chard A; Large Schools = Avishayes; Girls = Redstart, these 3 teams will now go forward to represent the Holyrood cluster in the South Somerset District Finals to be played on 15th and 22nd November.
A special mention should go to Holyrood Academy students for officiating and to Avishayes Combe FC for providing referees and some much needed goal posts!

County Cup Cricket Finals- 11/07/2012
Holyrood Academy's Under 15 girls cricket team reached the finals of the County Cup Cricket Tournament on 11th July 2012 as a result of some excellent performaces at the Somerset Schools Games qualifying tournament the previous weekend.
The finals were played at Castle School in Taunton, and Holyrood faced Castle and Writhlington in a 3 way final.
Holyrood started against Castle and lost their opening game 85-65, however, they improved their performance to beat Writhlington 64-62 in their Second match. The competition was made close when Writhlington beat Castle in the last game- meaning that each of the 3 schools had won 1 games, and lost 1 game.
The final result was decided on run scored with Castle hitting 144, Holyrood 129 and Writhlington 121 - Holyrood finished as runners up - a very creditable result.

Somerset School Olympic Games- 07/07/2012
On Saturday 7th July Holyrood Academy the very first Somerset School Games at Millfield. The games were 'an Olympics' for school students, with 15 different sports all going on at once.
Holyrood entered 5 teams on Saturday and delivered excellent performances despite the unfavourable weather conditions. A total of 29 boys and girls represented Holyrood in Athletics, Badminton, Girls Football, Hockey and Tennis.
Holyrood featured highly on the medal table at the end of the day with the Badminton and Tennis teams both gaining Gold. The Hockey squad took Bronze while the Athletics team just missed a medal finishing 4th.
In addition, Adam Veitch (Year 7) gained the 'Sportsmanship Award' at the end of the day, a special effort considering there were over 1000 students participating on the day!!
Mr Hedaux would like to congratulate all the participants for their commitment to the event, a superb effort, well done!

Primary Swimming - 09/07/2012
On Thursday 5th July, Chard area cluster of primary schools held its annual swimming gala. The event, which followed the format of traditional swimming gala with the races over 25 metres, was hosted at the Cresta Kingfisher Pool. Participating schools were: Buckland, Manor Court, Neroche, and Redstart, each bringing a year 3/4 tea, and a year 5/6 team.
A total of 32 local primary pupils took part, competing in teams of 4 and points were awarded to finishing positions in each event.
The overall winners of the gala were Redstart.
Events like these, are just one way of providing children with competitive situtations, something that all schools are working towards under government guidelines.
School Sports Co-ordinator, Jason Hedaux, would like to thank Cresta and Chard Swimming Club for their help. Chard Swimming Club provided valuable helpers. organising the races and making the event run efficiently.

The third annual QuadKids competition organised by The Rotary Club of Chard and kindly hosted by Holyrood Academy took place on 27th June 2012. Each year this event gets bigger and better and this competition was no exception, with 7 primary schools, totalling 84 athletes participating. Thanks must go to the Rotarians for running the 4 QuadKids events (sprint, run, jump and throw) and processing the results- they did a fantastic job! Many Thanks to all the Young Sports Leaders from Holyrood Academy who assisted- the time keepers and spotters were awesome!
The competition was followed by a medal ceremony for the top 3 boys and girls in each age group, and a shield was awarded to the top school.
Eventual overall winners were the team from Redstart - see below for full list.

Holyrood Academy, in partnership with Chard Cricket Club, played host to the annual Primary Schools Cricket Tournament at the clubs' ground on a glorious afternoon last Thursday 24th May.
The competition attracted a large entry, with a total of 18 teams playing a massive 49 games of cricket. A total of 144 girls and boys participated, following work in schools with the Chance2Shine cricket programme and in conjuction with National Cricket Day.
Schools in attendance were Ashill, Avishayes, Buckland, Combe, Manor Court, Redstart, Tatworth, Winsham and Chard. 11 students from Holyrood assisted the event by umpiring and scoring the games.
Winning schools will now represent our cluster in the area finals next week, congratulations to Tatworth, Chard, Redstart and Manor Court.

Primary Tennis- 01/05/2012
On Tuesday 1st May Chard Tennis Club hosted a primary schools 'mini red' tennis competition in conjuction with Holyrood Academy for its feeder primary schools.
22 pupils from 5 primaries; Ashill, Buckland St Mary, Manor Court, Neroche and Tatworth attended the competition which sees competitors play singles and doubles matches.
Neroche had a successful evening winning all 4 of their matches and will now represent the cluster in the Yeovil area finals.
Holyrood Academy sports co-ordinator, Jason Hedaux, would like to thank Chard Tennis Club and Sally Freeman for hosting the event- events like this, which build on and develop skills learnt in school, contribute towards the government's agenda for greater competition within and amongst schools.

Holyrood Academy's year 7 boys football team have enjoyed a successful season. Having beaten Maiden Beech 4-1, Huish Episcopi and Ansford 4-1, they met King Arthurs Sports College from Wincanton in the final.
Playing at Wadham School on a wet and windy day, Holyrood had a dream start, scoring 3 goals in the first 10 minutes. The half finished 5-0.
The second half saw King Arthurs use the wind and apply more pressure but Holyrood defence stood strong and wrapped up the victory with another goal, final score 6-0.
Scorers: Chris Hollick 3, Finaly Edwards 1, Charlie Hine 1, Nathan Johnson 1.

Chard Wheelers Cycling Club- 29/03/12
Holyrood Academy's feeder Primary Schools participated in a new venture with Chard Wheelers Cycling Club on Thursday 29th March. This new competitive opportunity gave primary children the chance to race against pupils from other schools, both on an individual and team basis.
The sessions were supported and led by members of Chard Wheelers Cycling Club, aiming to promote the popular Olympic sport of cyling.
20 pupils, 13 girls and 7 boys participated from Ashill, Combe, Manor Court and Neroche; with the overall winners being Neroche.

U14's Hockey- 10/2/12
Holyrood Academy travelled to Bridgwater on Friday 10th February to meet The Kings of Wessex School in the final of the U14 Boys Hockey County Cup.
Holyrood having had a convincing qualification programme; beating Bishop Fox 7-1, Huish Episcopi 4-0, Castle 5-0 - followed by a 4-0 semi final victory over Haygrove were full of confidence. Holyrood had a number of good chances in the game but failed to find the vital touch. Holyrood's goalkeeper, Callum Baille, touched the ball only once in the entire game such was there dominance - however, with the score at 0-0 at full time- the game was decided on Penalties- with Kings of Wessex coming out victorious.

Primary schools Netball- 10/2/12
Holyrood Academy played host to a High 5's Netball Tournament for it's feeder primary schools on Thursday 9th February. Brilliant sunshine welcomed 8 teams consisting of approximately 20 boys and 52 girl to the courts at the school.
A fantastic atmosphere was created by the large number of suporting staff, parents and friends- making the event a huge success.
Participating schools were: Ashill, Avishayes, Buckland, Combe, Neroche, Redstart, Tatworth and Winsham.
Winners of the competition were: Redstart and Tatworth, these 2 teams will now be going forward to represent the Holyrood cluster in the South Somerset District Finals to be played on Wednesday 21st March, at Maiden Beech Academy, 1:30pm start.

Primary Schools Dance Festival- 27/1/12
Holyrood Academy's feeder Primary Schools participated in a dance festival on Thursday 26th January. The newly refurbished studio at 'Kelly Leigh School of Dance' in Chard welcomed 5 teams consisting of 13 girls and 7 boys.
The event was made more special by the fact that Kelly herself taught the children a dance routine, they then performed the routine back to Kelly and School Sports Co-ordinator, Jason Hedaux to judge.
Schools that attended were Ashill, Avishayes, Buckland, Manor Court and Tatworth, with the overall winners being Manor Court.

Holyrood holds Paralympic sport session- 23/11/11
Paralympic Sport comes to Holyrood Academy!
On Monday 21st November students form Holyrood Academy wee able to experience first hand some paralympic sports. Jen Slade from SASP, together with representatives from Boccia England and Wheel Chair basketball delivered sessions to enthusiastic Holyrod Students.
12 students experienced Boccia- a seated bowls and over 100 students experienced wheelchair basketball- 50 of these returned at lunchtime to participate!
Jason Hedaux, School Sports Co-ordinator would like to thank SASP for organising these taster sessions- the olympics and Paralympics are coming!
Holyrood Academy hosts Badminton Tournment- 23/11/11
Holyrood Academy played host to the first round of the National Centre Parcs badminton tournament on Tuesday 22nd November. Four Junior Girls teams participated from Holyrood, Sexeys, King Arthurs and Stanchester- with Stancester victorious.
Seven Junior boys teams participated from Holyrood, Sexeys, King Arthurs, Stancester, Preston and Ansford with Preston being victorious.
Stancester and Preston now go through to the County round in February.
The matches were well officiated by 6th Form students from Holyrood.
Holyrood Hosts a Series of Cross Country Races- 10/11/2011
Holyrood Academy played host to a series of Cross Country Races for it's feeder primary schools on Thursday 10th November. It was aided by brilliant weather which welcomed 9 primary schools from the local area. A total of 194 runners, consisting of 108 boys and 86 girls to the fields at the Academy.
A fantastic atmosphere was created by the large number of supporting staff, parents and friends which helped turn the event into a success.
Winners of the competition were: Year3/4 girls - Tatworth; Year 3/4 Boys- Chard; Year 5/6 girls- Combe and Year 5/6 boys from Manor Court.

Holyrood Hosts Girls Cricket Tournament- 21/10/2011
Holyrood Academy played host to a Girls Cricket Tournament for it's feeder primary schools on Friday 21st October. Chard Cricket Club welcomed 6 teams consisting of approximately 40 girls to the astro at the Academy.
Schools that attended were Avishayes, Buckland, Manor Court and Tatworth.
The event was made more special by the attendance of Caroline Atkinson who has played for England and is a great role model for girls sport.
6 students from the Academy assisted the event by umpiring and scoring the games.
