English

Year 7 students have been having fun writing scripts to a voice-over for a short animated film and are now going to write a radio documentary script about Victorian Childhood.

In Year 8 we are reading and writing suspenseful stories with a ‘twist in the tale’ and in Year 9 one of Shakespeare’s plays, either Macbeth, The Tempest, or A Midsummer Night’s Dream is the focus for our study this half-term.

In Year 10 students are considering Social Networking media such as Twitter, Facebook and MySpace. They are studying a number of texts on this subject that take different views and then they will write about how these texts use language to persuade.

Year 11 students are now gearing up for their three summer English exams: two Literature exams and one Language exam. Each student has been lent a copy of the novel Animal Farm and Of Mice and Men. They should be re-reading these at home now, making revision notes on the characters, events and ideas in the novels for their Extended Study.

Finally a small, and very talented group of students, have been producing fantastic work at Creative Writing club (now on Thursday afternoons) run by Mr. Webber. Each week the work they produce is based on work by a different famous writer. An example of the sort of work produced is shown here. It was produced by Katrina, a Year 7 student and is written in the style of Jacqueline Wilson. Well done Katrina!
