India Project

Holyrood Academy has been visiting India for over 25 years and our love of the country continues.  It truly is an amazing opportunity and experience.  A group of students and staff have recently returned after spending 17 days travelling in this 'incredible' country.

We began in the north and flew into Delhi.  From there we travelled to the stunning Taj Mahal and the pink city of Jaipur.  On our return to Delhi we enjoyed an opportunity to visit a street market before flying south to visit our partner school Green Valley.  Our welcome at the school was overwhelming considering they had been closed due to flooding.

A new part of the partnership in Chennai is our connection with 'Little Drops' which is a charity working with destitute men and women.  It initially started in 1991 working with the elderly however it has grown due to the demand and has now set up a rehabilitation and education centre for the rural poor or all ages.  We were able to donate £1200 raised by Windwhistle Golf Club to the charity's founder Paul.

We then ended our trip in the beautiful beach area of Kovolam where one of the staff tried his hand at becoming a fisherman and brought in the nets!

India is an amazing country.  Our next visit will be in 2014.
