Emergency Closure Arrangments
These are the procedures we use in cases of emergency Academy closure. They are drawn up to ensure the students’ safety. You will be told that the Academy is to be closed:
1) by letter taken home by students at the end of the previous day (if we know in advance)
2) via this Academy website
3) by text message
Local radio stations will also transmit information (Heart FM and BBC Somerset).
News of the Academy’s re-opening will be broadcast as above and on the Academy website.
IF YOU DO NOT HEAR ANYTHING BY EITHER LETTER, MEDIA, TEXT MESSAGE OR ON THE WEBSITE PLEASE ASSUME THAT THE ACADEMY IS OPEN AS NORMAL.
If it is necessary to close the Academy early in the day, County transport will be rearranged to deliver students home at the earlier time. Please make arrangements for your child to be able to gain access to your home if, in an emergency, they arrive home early. If access to your home is not possible, can you make alternative arrangements for them?
If your child is not able to gain access to your home, or that of a neighbour, arrangements will be made at the Academy to look after him/her until we can contact you.
In bad weather conditions, many parents / carers and staff phone into the Academy. Please be patient, we will answer your call as soon as we can. Thank you for your help. We hope we do not need to close the Academy this winter, but if we do, the above arrangements will help make the closure smooth and safe for your child.
