Care and Support
Effective care, guidance and support is one of the important means by which we enable children to achieve their full potential, enriching his or her personal life, assisting in allowing informed decisions to be made, and offering guidance to bring about the required self-discipline to support teaching and learning. We value the partnership of mutual support between teachers, parents and students and keep personal achievement at the heart of our care and support programme.
Year Team Structure
The Year structure is made up of a Year Leader, Pastoral Leader and a team of form tutors.
The tutor will always be accessible to students for support and advice, and will help in all matters related to academic performance. The tutor is the first point of contact for parents.
The Year Leader has an oversight of the academic progress of all the students in the year group and the Pastoral Leader will be responsible for the welfare of the students.
Some students require additional support either academically or socially and emotionally. Our Learning Support department works alongside the Year Team and the subject teams to ensure students have access to the support they require, either from within the Academy or from third parties, in order to allow them to succeed.
Buddy System and Peer Mentoring
Year 9 students act as ‘Buddies’ for new Year 7 students joining the Academy. Sixth form students also mentor younger students and offer support in subjects across the Academy.
Academic Mentoring – Year 11
All students are allocated a staff mentor at the end of Year 10 and throughout Year 11. Students meet with their mentors regularly and during these meetings academic progress is reviewed and students are signed up to subject support sessions as necessary.
Careers Advice and Guidance
Impartial careers advice and guidance is provided 2 days a week for students at Holyrood Academy by an Independent Careers Advisor, Emma Higman.
