This funding is used to employ a full-time (Higher Level Teaching Assistant) HLTA to focus on the needs of Year 7 students below national expectations in Literacy. Students are selected using primary data, base line reading, decoding, and spelling results and CAT scores. They follow an intensive Literacy programme in groups of 4 or less. This can run into their first term of Year 8 depending on the level of need.
Improved reading and spelling ages for Year 7 students have been recorded as follows in the last year:
- Reading ages have improved by 4.11 years for non PP students and 5.6 years for PP students
- Spelling ages have improved by 4.04 years for non PP students and 3.11 years for PP students
- Comprehension ages have improved by 4.01 years for non PP by 4.09 years for PP students .
