Year 11 Hockey Boys: County Champions!

Year 11 Hockey Boys: County Champions!

The Year 11 Boys qualified for the finals held at Kings College, Taunton on Thursday 14th December. They played against highly skilled teams from schools across the County in the hope of being named County Champions.

The Year 11 side played their first game against Chilton Trinity where they had possession for the majority of the game. Some excellent work from captain Ryan Lewis and forward, Harry Trotter saw the boys win 2-0. The Holyrood side took this momentum into their second game against Haygrove. The Year 11 side had Haygrove under pressure on many occasions but they couldn't seem to find the back of the net before half time. As the second half began it looked as if the game was going to end 0-0 but with 5 minutes to go Trotter bagged himself a goal once more to earn the team's second win of the day. Due to other results in the group the boys knew they only had to draw their final game against Heathfield to be named champions but despite this they went out all guns blazing looking to get an early goal. Some brilliant work from Jacob Boobyer, Ryan Lewis, James Salaman and Joel Smith put Heathfield under pressure but the boys were unable to make the most of the opportunities. The score was 0-0 at half time and the boys knew they had to leave everything out on the pitch if they were to be crowned winners. Some exceptional work from keeper Oscar Smith and Seb Horne, Ed Butler and Alex Brake in defence kept Heathfield from scoring. The score at the final whistle was 0-0 and the team celebrated in front of the crowd as they knew they'd done enough!!

Miss Sims said: "What a day! The boys should be so proud of themselves... they worked so hard! The boys have come on leaps and bounds thanks to their hard work and that of the PE department and coaches at Chard Hockey Club. We have great links with the club; the students at Holyrood appear to be loving hockey more and more which is great!"
