On Wednesday 14th March 2018, eight of Holyrood’s most excellent mathematicians journeyed to Millfield School in Street to compete with the county’s finest mathematical minds. Our Year 11 students completed 5 rounds of mathematical tests, finishing a highly respectable 7th and 8th out of 13 teams. Notably, the Holyrood A and B teams were 2nd and 3rd best placed non-private schools in the competition.
The rounds were themed as Group, Fizz-Buzz, Head-to-Head, Relay and Speed. The students tackled many challenging questions on topics including square and cube numbers, Pythagoras theorem in 3D and the nth term of a sequence.
Maths teacher at Holyrood, Mr Macdonald, said “The energy, enthusiasm and confidence that the 8 students showed was a credit to the Academy. Both teams displayed excellent team work and had a thoroughly enjoyable time! Congratulations to all that took part.”
