Over 45 students from Holyrood Academy travelled to Millfield School to compete in the Spring Games on Friday 13th April. This included the U13 and U15 girls and boys handball teams as well as four table tennis players.
All four handball teams competed in a round-robin competition against 5 opposing schools throughout the day. The players performed brilliantly with some superb skills being displayed against the likes of Crispin and Kingsmead Schools. The U15 girls finished in 4th place and the U15 boys in 6th while the U13 boys were named 3rd in County and the U13 girls were deservedly crowned County Champions after defeating Crispin 3-1 in their final game of the day. The U13 girls now go on to represent the County at the Regional Finals in May.
Miss Sims, Sports Coach at Holyrood Academy, said "Wow what a day! Handball is a relatively new sport for the Academy so we thought we'd enter this competition to give the students some friendly game. Credit to them as they all massively exceeded our expectations. The U13 girls were incredible. Heidi Warren was the standout performer after scoring over 90% of the team’s goals but the whole team was fantastic; they listened and improved game after game. Their spectacular defence in the final game saw them stop the experienced Handballers, Crispin, from winning the final game. Alfred Busby and Harry Clifford also performed outstandingly in the table tennis competition to be named 3rd in County. What a brilliant achievement. Well done all!"
