We have exceptionally high expectations of all our students with respect to behaviour and conduct, both within lessons and during informal times at Holyrood. However, we are not complacent and continue to seek to improve all that we do.

Ready to Learn is our new approach to supporting teachers and students to tackle low level disruption in classrooms. We have consulted with students and staff in order to agree a set of expectations for the whole academy environment and for the classroom.

Classroom expectations:

• Arrive on time.
• Sit where you are asked.
• Be ready to learn within 30 seconds.
• Listen respectfully to others.
• Stay on task.
• Follow instructions from all adults.
• Allow others to learn.
• Be polite and treat others with respect.
• Treat the classroom environment with respect.

Students will have one warning for not meeting these expectations.

If this is repeated the student will be sent to be ‘retracked’ and then sent to work in the Ready to Learn room for day. Parents will be notified of this by letter.

Appropriate work will be provided so students are not missing out on learning time but also strict rules must be adhered to. Failure to do so will lead to a formal exclusion.

Outside of the classroom expectations:

• Walk when indoors and move calmly around the site.
• Use appropriate language at an appropriate volume.
• Be polite and treat others with respect.
• Follow the mobile phone policy.
• Put litter in the bins.
• Eat in the designated areas.
• Respect the Academy site and other people’s property.
• Wear uniform correctly.
• Follow instructions from all adults.

If a member of staff asks a student to follow the expectations and this doesn’t happen it will result in a red card detention.
