Home Learning

The Home Learning programme at Holyrood is designed to:

  • Ensure that students secure the knowledge that they need to be successful.

  • Ensure that students master effective revision strategies from Year 7 onwards.

  • Support students to get into a routine so that they are used to managing their time effectively.

Years 7, 8 and 9

Students in Years 7-9 use a centralised timetable to complete no more than one hour of Assessment Prep work each weekday evening. This is completed using our Knowledge Organisers and  AIM, PRACTICE, TEST, REVIEW structure in Assessment Prep Books. Through this structure, students learn how to transfer important knowledge into their long term memory enabling them to recall it in class and assessments. This work should be checked each evening by parents and is checked each morning by tutors.

Maths homework is completed online using Sparx. Details of how to log in and complete Sparx homework can be found in the Assessment Prep Book.

Years 10 and 11

Students in Years 10 and 11 receive an ‘Exam Prep’ booklet for each subject once a half term. This booklet should be completed in accordance with the centralised timetable. The Exam Prep booklets include a variety of tasks that ensure students engage with important knowledge and exam technique ready for their GCSE exams.
